Understanding ‘OCD’ when it comes to Decluttering

For many people the use of the word OCD has become synomous with being "clean" or "organised". The number of times a week I get asked if I am OCD has reached the point of annoyance. I have to explain that I am not close to being OCD and just like organising things. The two cannot be linked together.

The term OCD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a common, chronic and long-lasting disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions) that he or she feels the urge to repeat over and over. For people with OCD, to hear the term used so freely can be distressing as well as detrimental to their health.

In this episode, we talk about the term and also understanding the link that is currently being made to decluttering and organising.

If you believe you do have OCD and need medical assistance, please get in touch and we can advise on mental health practitioners who can assist you.
