Maintenance Organizing and How to Change your Habits

Maintenance Organizing and how to change your habitsCreating a habit and building on it is a great way to bring organizing structure into your life, especially maintenance organizing. Maintenance organizing is what you need to focus on once you have worked by yourself or with a professional organizer to create the organizing systems. It is all fine and dandy to create an organizing system, but if you don't start developing the habit to maintain the system, you will become frustrated and unmotivated again.Building the new habit takes time so don't get discouraged if you are not successful the first, second or even the third time. The following ten steps have been used to make habit building successful for people with ADD, but can be used by anyone to get organized. Before you start using these steps, make sure you have a support network with you whether it be family, friends or a professional organizer, to help you stay on track. The 10 steps to habit building are as follows:10 Steps to Habit Building(Diagram from “ADD-Friendly ways to Organize Your Life” by Judith Kolberg & Kathleen Nadeau). To download these steps, click here to download the help sheet. When starting these steps make sure you set yourself reasonable goals. Perfection is difficult so don't strive for that. Use positive self-affirmations and recognize when you have made progress with each new habit. And always remember that you are doing this for yourself and not for the approval of anybody else.Let me know how you go with creating a new organizing habit.Shelina Jokhiya
