Guest blog - Tea Organising by @Kangayayaroo

My lovely friend @Kangayayaroo had a decluttr session this weekend. She has kindly agreed to share her decluttr session with us all. Here's her post: My husband has a tea habit. The habit is spilling out of the cupboard in all directions. He may know what is in there, but I certainly couldn't find mint or chamomile when needed. I wanted to have a tidier way to handle this, like a nice wooden case with small drawers, but that would take up too much counter space. So, a quick Google image search for "organizing tea" gave me a few ideas to consider. I gravitated to this A Simple, Frugal Solution for Oraganising Your Tea. I wanted to use the cupboard space to the max, so plastic stackable trays seemed like a good idea. A brief trip to the nearest Daiso store resulted in six trays for a start.Next came unpacking the cupboard to see just what was in there. The dried up Milo was thrown away, along with some other items no longer edible. There were several boxes of 100 tea bags from which one cup had been made and the tea found lacking. The other 99 bags languish in the box. Because my husband was not present, I opted not to toss these boxes. It would be appropriate, however, to give them the heave-ho, if they are just taking up space and won't be used.Consolidation began by taking the bags out of the boxes and placing them in sandwich sized storage bags. The front of the box with the brand and flavor of the tea was cut out of the box and placed in the bag for identification. The bags then went into the stacking trays. Two brands required their own trays. One because it isn't liked much and there are many bags left. The other brand because it is his favorite and there were several flavors. The rest I arranged in trays in alphabetical order by brand name. This probably won't last long. Bags that are taken out to be used will probably not be put back in strict alpha order, but it is worth a try. There were some anomalies. What do you do with loose leaf tea? If you really need to reduce the space required, I suppose you could use the storage bag and label for that as well. I opted to leave it in it's original containers and separate it by putting it on the top shelf and use the bottom shelf for tea bags. Here is how it turned out. It is still a little rough looking. The trays aren't quite the right size. The tea sticks up above the edge making stacking a bit awkward. My temporary labels need to be replaced with some nicely printed labels. Also, discarding teas that have no chance of being used would help greatly, but that will have to be negotiated. At least the tea is contained in the cupboard and not stacked above and below. My tea is now tucked in it's own purple box, so when I feel the need for mint, chamomile, or hibiscus, I know where to look.
