Networking and Those Dreaded Business Cards

The networking season is in full swing currently in Dubai which  means only one thing - the swapping of business cards.I am always astounded when I go to these events and meet  people who do not have any business cards with them or have  run out of them. How can you go to a networking event and not  have enough cards or any at all? I find it unprofessional and also  I find that I will have no inclination to do business or referrals  with them in the future (it does help that I do not have their card  to keep their details).

To ensure I do not get into this type of predicament this is what I do for every networking event:a. Check the night before that my business card holder is full of cards.b. Carry a half filled box of cards in my bag.c. Keep a full box of cards in my car at all times (in case I forgot to do point a).d. Carry my cards in a business card holder. It is highly irritating watching someone shuffle cards in their hands trying to find their one.

My business card holder has two slots to allow me to put the received business cards in them. It's neat and ensures the cards don't get mixed with my cards.I also save all the cards received using Evernote Hello. So in reality I don't need to keep the card given to me, as I can scan it immediately using my phone. However, protocol in this region still dictates that we are polite and take cards. I cannot wait for the time when we can embrace digital card swapping; not only will it ensure that we save money on printing cards, it will also ensure that people are less frazzled when handing over cards.

What tips do you have for dealing with the business cards during these network events. Let me know in the comments box.If you would like to store all the business cards you have received (and will receive in future) and click on contact us, to find out more about the service I provide.
